    Hi Ashley,

Is this a note you created on StudyBlue or a document you had uploaded? You should be able to edit notes you had created in StudyBlue. Click on them from within your Backpack. The 'Edit' option will appear along the right hand side of the screen. Is the option available?

As a heads up, with our new site release scheduled for today, note-creation capabilities will no longer be possible. Any notes previously created before the release will be preserved within your Backpack for future viewing. Read more about this change here.

    Hi Ashley and Regan,

I would recommend copying and pasting your notes into a Google Docs or Word document to continue editing. Apologies for any inconvenience this causes. Once your notes are in their completed form, you can always choose to upload them back into StudyBlue and create flashcards from there.

More information to come when available.

I just logged into my StudyBlue account to continue taking notes for one of my classes, but when I clicked on my "class notes" button, the format is TOTALLY different.

First off, I don't like the new format at all. It looks more professional at first, but the added spacing quality is unnecessary and it is simply not as functional as the old format.

Secondly, I cannot alter anything in my notes now! When I click "edit," the only thing that I can change is the title and privacy details.

I need to add to my class notes! This needs to be fixed as soon as possible.

    • I've been studying for my USMLE step 1 medical boards as a medical student and have been faithfully using StudyBLUE and even upgraded to the premium version to get full capability.

I use the old edit feature to (1) add new info to old notes as I use new learning materials and (2) to search key terms in my entire flashcard deck using my browser's search (since the studyblue search function does not work that well of jumping from one key word to another.

I am VERY aggravated by STUDY BLUE and the new format. I've lost my old way of using the site and my board exams are just around the corner. I can't believe the site would do this.

This site has so much potential but keeps making all the wrong moves.

    All,

All notes created prior to today have been converted to files in preparation for full new site functionality to be released early tomorrow morning. This means that while still able to made edits to these notes elsewhere, you will no longer be able to make edits on StudyBlue to notes created prior to today.

You will be able to create new notes today and make edits to them but be aware that when the full site release takes place tomorrow, these newly created notes will also no longer be editable. You will be able to download notes in PDF and HTML format. By downloading your notes as 'originals' in HTML format, you can copy and paste from your notes into a Word or Google doc to continue making edits. Read more here about how to go about doing this.

Apologies for any inconvenienced caused. Check out the link to our blog post regarding this change here.

      Hi Roza,

I am sorry to hear you feel this way. You appear to have been using StudyBlue for a while so I can understand how changes to something you have grown accustomed to can be frustrating. We are continuing to evaluate all of this incoming feedback for future tweaking. I see two 'Notes' created by you listed in your Backpack. Was this a feature you used frequently and if so, how did it typically come in handy?

      Thank you for your feedback.

Now it takes forever for what I type to appear in the flashcards which is taking me longer to input. Also, I enjoyed the notes feature because I could use my flashcards entries for my homework. Example, I use my flashcards to study definitions but I am required to turn in the definitions for my school work, I used to be able to input once and use the notes feature to print my flashcards as homework saving time and effort. The excel format is not something the teacher will allow. Also, I used the note feature for my study guides and then turned them into flash cards. So the changes are affecting my study and work time. Sean

    • Katie Cooper (Community Manager) March 09, 2012 21:31
      Hi Sean,

You should still be able to print out your flashcards if needing to turn them into your teacher. Click on a flashcard deck in your Backpack and along the left hand side of the page you should see an option to 'Print'.

Notes can also be taken through another source like Google docs, Evernote (automatically syncs notes into StudyBlue), or Microsoft Word and upload them into your Backpack where they can be retyped as flashcards.

Apologies for the frustration you are feeling but hopefully we can work with you to find solutions that work.

      Best,

I loved the note feature. It was fantastic for keeping foreign language grammar rules straight. I'm very disappointed that I need to create them somewhere else and then upload to the site. First I'm not entirely sure how to do that and second, if I was going to type them somewhere else, why would I bother uploading them to StudyBlue? Please bring back the ability to create notes straight on the site!
    • you're right i loved it to because it kept me organized and was it helped me alot when i needed to cram in some last minute studying. It's harder and takes so much longer if you can't just type them up. I'm really disappointed to and hope that someone convinces them to put it back up. maybe losing people will help change their minds.

We appreciate you all sharing these insights into the importance of note-taking. Would either of you mind further explaining what about our old notes feature made it 'the best part of StudyBlue'? Hi Roza,

Thank you for being so vocal on this thread. Alongside fellow users who have contributed to this thread, we can see you feel very strongly about this recent change. Your Backpack is comprised of both flashcard decks and a couple notes. Could you provide further feedback on why you find one method of tracking/organizing information to be better than the other?

So to get a reply from an employee here you need to bombard the thread repeatedly? I disagree with that on so many levels. I barely use this site anymore because of all the new changes and the removal of the note creation feature. However, I've been reading the comments on this thread and even though they aren't aimed at me I'll give my feedback.
First: I have tried to use Microsoft word and upload notes to the site. The formatting gets all messed up and it takes so long to type things into Microsoft word (for me at least) in the proper formatting just to have it look different once it's uploaded.
Second: The reason I used notes in the first place was because I needed a lot of information in one place (mostly conjugation rules for different tenses in foreign languages) and it is not logical to put that information into flashcards.
Third (related to previous): When you guys changed the font sizes on the flashcards it made the mobile app pretty much useless because you couldn't scroll to see all the information on the card. The flashcard feature is great for equations or word to word translation or short definitions, but it is not feasible for large amounts of information. The note feature was perfect for that before it was removed.
    Thank you.

You're welcome, Kisha. More than happy to work through some of these concerns with you. Let me know what you think of Evernote once you've had time to check it out.

With regards to what you are describing in terms of adding bullets to flashcards and automatic font size adjustment, I was able to create a longer list (7 bullets) and all of the information was viewable when using the StudyBlue mobile app. Would you reach the point on your flashcards where a 'Too Long' message would appear? The character limit has not changed since our update but we introduced the automatic adjustment of the font in order to hopefully give people a better visualization of when there information would no longer fit on a card. Clearly it has still caused some confusion - we appreciate your input on the function.

      Katie

Alright, I started a thread but never voiced my concerns because I thought losing the ability to edit and add my notes was a glitch in the system. Then I was added to this thread and am relived I am not the only one who was confused and frustrated when I got to class and opened up Study Blue to take notes and couldn't even edit my old ones.

I loved Study Blue because I could hold all of my study items in one place. Study Blue kept me organized for my classes from the first lecture to exam. The flashcard feature sets Study Blue apart from other note taking services I could be using. I came to this website looking for a way to make and study flashcards online, but after your flashcards helped me so much on my Art History final last semester, I wanted to spend more time on your website. I decided to switch from taking notes on paper to taking notes on your website. The note taking feature was simple and I loved how easy it was to take the notes and turn them into flashcards because they were in the same format. I liked how easy it was to change color of text compared to changing color on other sites. Plus, like I said before, I liked just logging on to your site and having all my study materials in one place. I've tried using Evernote, but I never got hooked on it. Right now, I am using Google Docs and I like their format the most after being used to Study Blue, but I hate having to use two sites. I don't care what anyone says; taking notes on the flashcards feature doesn't work well at all when a student is trying to write down everything the professor is saying. Plus when a teacher asks questions regarding topics talked about in previous classes, it's too hard to flip back to find the information typed out when using flashcards.

I just don't understand why you would limit your services. I spent more time of your website because of taking notes. More students see your website being used when I open my laptop in class and take notes on it. I know I'm constantly looking over student's shoulders to see their method of taking notes. People never see study blue now that I can only use it for flashcards. Studying with flashcards happens behind closed doors or walking in between classes. For me, it is a private way to study therefore no one I know hears about Study Blue from me. I just don't see the benefit in losing such a great feature. I will not threaten to stop using your site like previous commenters, but please bring back the notes feature.

    Jake

The only reason I used StudyBlue in the past was to keep things in my classes and extracurriculars straight through the use of notes that I could access anywhere on the internet. (1) Not being able to edit/add to existing notes robs this site of much of its usability. The flexibility and dynamic structure was what set this site apart.
    (2) I am not sold on the idea of having to type notes in my own word processor and upload them, because what is supposed to "just take a minute" is going on twenty minutes and counting. I need to see what the doc looks like once uploaded so I can know it will work for my students and I don't like having to wait forever to do that.

If you're so enamored of the uploading option, fine, but bring back the type-straight-into-notes method as an option.

    sad I’m frustrated
Two months later and the document I tried to upload for my students to study STILL will not download. It hangs forever telling me the document is being optimized. I am really, really unhappy with the downturn in functionality on StudyBlue.
