Crosswords might be helpful.

Hi Ria, we do have a quiz, have you tried that? Do you have any specific games in mind? Thanks for your ideas! Jenny

Jj Finn April 11, 2013 22:13I think games is a great idea!! games will make this website be the best. some game ideas I have are hangman, matching(great way)battleship, crossword matching. I really hope that games can be added because the flashcards alone are becoming boring.EditDeleteRemove

Rachel Henning May 31, 2013 03:46I think that there should definitely be some sort of grand multi-term-definition-matching option added to the quiz.EditDeleteRemove

Ariel, I added your idea in with this similar one so that we can better keep track of this idea. Thanks for the feedback!

I feel like the games might start to become more of a distraction than a help (at least for me), but i guess the goal is to provide as many methods for studying as possible to help everyone learn, so it is a good idea.
-
Could you explain as to how they would be a distraction to you? I am genuinely interested in your reasoning.

Personally, I would say it depends. If we're talking about games like Facebook has, that would obviously be a detriment. However, if games were available that drew on the content of your flashcards, that would be an effective alternative activity. Any interaction with the content being studied is positive reinforcement. The real trick would be to have games which don't come across as intended for 3rd grades.... (Or have different games for different age groups.)

Is there any way to access the original study blue website that had brain games? The new website only has regular flashcards, I can do that on actual flashcards. The advantage to study blue was that you could study flashcards in different ways by matching, etc... Is there any possibility you could add them to the premium site? it would be incentive to pay the 60 dollars I am starting to regret paying for a year membership

Games like Stoink and Match-up and Taboo were always helpful for learning terms in the classroom... is there any way to translate them for Study Blue?

sporkle is a fantastic concept that could be integrated into your website - time based quick answers that test your knowledge of subjects more holistically.
-
James,
I am familiar with the joys of Sporcle. I know the development team is as well. I will pass your comments along to them and we'll add this to the "considerations" list.
Thanks,

If the editors of this website were to take a look at www.quizlet.com, they may find some great ideas for games. My favorite game on said website is called "space race". It is a vocabulary based version of the game "Typer Shark".

I think that Study Blue is amazing, but two things that would help would be picture on flashcards, and study games.

Hello! I love the clean and simple design of your website! It has helped me prepare for the classes over and over again. However, I found this website called Quizlet, which had powerful study methods beyond just flash cards.
First, I really liked their spell option, where they autoread the word to you and you have to spell correctly. also, they have learn option where you have to type in the correct answer. Thirdly, they had a test option where you'll get to experience it before the real test in classes. Lastly, they had made fun option to study by using games. They have two options, scatter and space race. This site has helped me a lot, and I think study blue is an awesome site where its developing right now. I think it would be a nice development for this site :D

1Hi to all Study Blue users and administrators!
Well, the two ideas that I have for flashcards to be more exciting and being such an innovation would be adding two popular games: Cross Words and Connect the Term to the Definition.
I believe the Cross Words would be an excelent idea, because you have a term and a definition... the only problem with this would be the fact that the terms, if they are bigger than 2 words, it could be difficult to find the word... the definition would be the text for cross words and the term was the one to write on the cross words. Forgive me for my english, because I'm from Portugal and I do not have that experience in english like you do!
The second game that I mention was the Connecting a Term with his definition, which means that you would put a table on the left side with the terms and in the other side you would put another table with the definitions... then the user would just click on the term, it would create a arrow and click on the correct definition. I hope you all understand what I'm trying to get here...
Well that's my 2 ideas, because in the exams here in my university, involves a lot with the second game that I mentioned... the cross words would be another excelent game to remember the terms because of the definitions.
Well I guess it's all... keep your excelent word and I hope for these to be created in a near future!
Sincerely,
Fábio Santos

The only thing this website is missing is
Games. Ex: Crossword Puzzles ect..
Grammar Checks (mistakes are very Common)

No, I don't want games on studyblue. That would turn it into just another quizlet, and we left that site for a reason.

go onto quizlet to see what i am talking about...

I think that a great activity to add to the program would be crossword puzzles. I think it would be relatively easy to take the definitions from the flashcards and use them as the clues to the terms which you would have to guess to fill in the crossword puzzle. I've seen it done before and I found it a great way to work my brain and make things stick more. I think it's nicer to have some more interactive approaches available. I absolutely love this site though and it has helped me tremendously with my studying. good work! :)
